A supposed train-hopping Western monarch butterfly that was tagged in Pismo Beach and found in Colorado is the center of a running joke among longtime docents at the monarch butterfly grove.
“We think it caught the Amtrak,” joked Gary Espian, a six-year docent at the California State Parks Department/Pismo State Beach Monarch Butterfly Grove.
The wayward butterfly found in Pueblo, Colo., also is the talk among researchers at the grove that abuts Grover Beach and sits off Highway 1.

The Pismo Beach City Council has taken emergency action to keep a portion of Price Street that runs along the bluffs near Shell Beach from collapsing into the ocean.
With a 5-0 vote this week, the council agreed to allocate $339,000 for a contract with JC Baldwin Construction Co. to repair a section of the severely eroding bluffs located just south of the clay tennis courts near Pelican Point Restaurant & Bar.

Ballet Theatre San Luis Obispo will present the world premiere of “The Velveteen Rabbit” as the troupe’s holiday ballet Dec. 5 and 6 in the Performing Arts Center at Cal Poly.
The ballet is based on the classic children’s book by Margery Williams and set to the music of Alexandre Luigini.
