Youth Soccer

AG loses, ties in Soccer by the Sea Tourney

Arroyo Grande’s boys fell 2-1 to Downey Warren, then tied Fresno San Joquin Memorial 1-1 in the Soccer by the Sea Tournament at Nipomo High School on Saturday.

Andreas Pille scored for the Eagles against Warren. Miguel Zamora scored against Memorial.

High School Football

Officials needed for 2008 season

The Northern Channel Coast Football Officials Association (NCCFOA) is looking for interested men and women who would like to officiate football at the high school level this coming 2008 season.

The NCCFOA covers youth, freshmen, junior Varsity and varsity football games from Santa Ynez to Paso Robles.

The first meeting will be held at Arroyo Grande High School in the forum classroom on Tuesday, Aug. 5, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The next two meetings will be on Tuesdays August 12 and 19.

Chivas USA U-19

to visit Central Coast

After the success of last summer’s big soccer exhibition match between Chivas U-19 and the Santa Maria All-stars, the Boys Scouts of America, Los Padres Council will expand the event this year.

Chivas will take on the All-Stars on Sunday, July 27 at Pioneer Valley High School in Santa Maria in a unique doubleheader.

The Chivas U19 team will take on the Santa Maria All-Stars at 12:30 p.m. and that match will be followed by a game between the Ex-Chivas de Guadalajara and the Central Coast All-stars.

Al Garcia, who will once again coach the Santa Maria All-stars said that the Guadalajara squad is the original Chivas team that is known worldwide. Ex-Chivas will feature legendary stars Martin “Pulpo” Zuniga, Manolo “El Matador” Martinez, Lupillo Casteneda and many more.

Tickets for the doubleheader are available at Allstate Insurance, 110 S. Lincoln, Suite 104, Carniceria El Matador, Garibaldi’s Restaurant and the Boy Scouts of America. The cost in advance is $20 for adults and $15 for youths. At the gate the price will increase to $25 to $20.

Also Chivas USA U19 and the Ex-Chivas players will host a clinic for boys ages 6 through 12. The clinic will take place from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. prior to the exhibition.

Soccer clinic fees include Soccer and Scouting membership, clinic certificate of participation, one youth ticket to the game and an autograph session with the players.

The cost is $40 for BSA members and $50 for new BSA members.

Hancock College

Joe White Memorial Dinner coming up

The 7th Annual Joe White Memorial Dinner and Auction is coming up on Saturday, Aug. 23 at the Santa Maria Fairpark Plaza Pavilion.

Presented by the Hancock College Booster Club and led by the Joe White Memorial Fund Committee, the dinner and auction raises much-needed money for the Hancock athletic programs and athletic facilities.

The evening includes a no-host cocktail hour, New York strip dinner, a silent and a live auction.

The committee is currently looking for table sponsors, cash contributions or auction items. Individual tickets are also on sale. For more information, call 345-5858. Reservations are required.
