Arroyo Grande motorcyclist dies in Nipomo crash

A large piece of wood in the roadway may have led to an Arroyo Grande man’s death late Thursday night, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Jacob P. Tillema, 65, suffered major injuries when he was thrown from his motorcycle on Pomeroy Road just south of Primrose Lane in Nipomo at 11 p.m., the CHP said.

Tillema was northbound on Pomeroy Road when he apparently struck a large piece of wood on the dry roadway, the CHP said.

He was transported to Arroyo Grande Hospital and pronounced dead at 1:23 a.m.

The accident remains under investigation, CHP officials said.
