n The annual Ken Harmount Pier to Pier Paddle fundraiser for San Luis Obispo County Junior Lifeguard Programs will be held today starting at the Olde Port Beach in Avila to the south of Pismo Pier at the Sea Venture Resort. Registration is from 7 to 7:45 a.m. and launch is at 8 a.m.

Cost is $20 for Surfrider members and junior lifeguards (proof of association is required) and $30 for everyone else, which includes T-shirt and water. Paddle crafts will include surfboards, paddleboards, stand-ups, kayaks, canoes, and outriggers.

n Cub Scout Pack 13 of Arroyo Grande will partner with Sunset North Car Wash at 1198 East Grand Avenue in Arroyo Grande all day to raise funds for camping trips, Pine Wood Derby, Raingutter Regatta, books, patches, field trips and more.

Sunset North Car Wash will provide all the employees and services while the Cub Scout Pack 13 will provide enthusiastic supporters to draw in customers in return for 15 percent of the day’s total sales. n 9-11 American Thunder will hold their 5th annual barbecue and rally from noon to 2 p.m. at Mitchell Park at the corner of Osos and Pismo streets in San Luis Obispo to show support for the troops.

Guest speaker will be Brig. Gen. Mary J. Kight. Music will be provided by the San Luis Obispo County Band, and the Honor Guard provided by Vandenberg Air Force Base. The barbecue is free to all military personnel in uniform and $10 for others.

n Hats for Hope Community Hat Party and Auction to benefit San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara County residents undergoing chemotherapy and radiation will be held from noon to 4 p.m. at Rancho Miranda Gardens in Santa Maria. The fundraising event allows Hats for Hope to provide funding for wigs and hats to local residents who are battling cancer.
