Bungee Jumpin’ Cows’ music makes science fun
By TPR Staff
A “musical festival of fun” will leap onto the Spanos Theatre stage Saturday, Oct. 11, when the Bungee Jumpin’ Cows perform at a special 11 a.m. show.
Cal Poly Arts is presenting the children’s rock concert as part of its low-cost Family Event series.
The show is appropriate for all ages, but Cal Poly Arts is asking parents not to bring infants.
The performance will be filmed for public viewing at a later date, so the Spanos audience will get to be part of the “crazy for Cows” concert energy, said a Cal Poly Arts spokesman.
The Cows — aptly described as “the Far Side” of music — sing of science and environmental responsibility in a way that’s accessible to children and educational without being obvious, the spokesman said.
For example, the group’s “Blood-Sucking Friends” tells the mosquito’s side of the story, and “The Laws of Physics” uses hot guitar licks and lyrics to teach complex principles.
In addition to playing cool, hard-driving, funny and original music, Bungee Jumpin’ Cows shows are filled with wild characters, crazy costumes and audience participation.
Through rock, funk, pop, surf and rap styles, the group sings about the rain forest, dinosaur extinction, air cycle, frogs, rock types, chemistry of fire, sharks, evolution, plate tectonics, ecology, tornados, fungi, vultures, spiders and banana slugs.
The group created the music for the LucasArts CD-ROM game “Mortimer and the Riddles of the Medallion,” which won the 1996 Children’s Interactive Expo Kid’s Choice award for Best Music.
