Popular demand brings back ‘Caveman’: Comedy is a prehistoric look at the sexes

In response to overwhelming demand following a fall performance at the Clark Center for the Performing Arts, the comic phenomenon “Defending the Caveman” will return to the Arroyo Grande stage at 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24.

“Defending the Caveman” is a hilariously insightful play about the ways men and women relate, said a Clark Center spokeswoman.

Comedian Rob Becker wrote “Defending the Caveman” over a three-year period during which he made an informal study of anthropology, prehistory, psychology, sociology and mythology.

This prehistoric look at the battle of the sexes played for two years on Broadway — the longest-running solo play in Broadway history — and is full of scenarios that celebrate the differences between men and women.

With hilarious insights on contemporary feminism, masculine sensitivity and the erogenous zones, the show addresses common themes in relationships that go straight to the funny bone, the spokeswoman said.

An international hit, “Caveman” has productions in 30 countries, including Canada, South Africa, Iceland, Sweden and Germany, and is performed in 15 languages.

Tickets, which are $30 to $40, can be purchased at the Clark Center box office, 487 Fair Oaks Ave., Arroyo Grande, by calling 489-9444 or online at www.clarkcenter.org.
